Ex-HMP Chelmsford officer Elizabeth Surrey denies inmate relationship

An ex-prison officer will stand trial accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

Elizabeth Surrey, 25, of Steamer Terrace, Chelmsford, pleaded not guilty to misconduct in public office when she appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court.

She is accused of showing her cleavage to an HMP Chelmsford inmate, and sending him cards, letters and emails.

Miss Surrey, who now works for a railway company, is expected to be tried in December.

The alleged offences happened between 14 September 2012 and 4 April 2013.

She was released on unconditional bail.

The case against Elizabeth Surrey was dropped on 14 November 2013.
