Fire rips through primary school in Braintree, Essex

A primary school in Essex is on fire, with the building about 90% alight, according to firefighters.

The fire broke out at the John Ray School in Braintree on Saturday afternoon and was being tackled by about 30 firefighters.

The incident commander said the fire involved the infants section of the school, which has about 260 pupils.

"Firefighters are tackling flames using one jet and three hose reels," he said. No casualties have been reported.

Six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out later..
