Essex fatal lorry crash causes A12 closure

A man has died after his lorry hit the central reservation of the A12 in a crash that caused severe traffic delays around the Essex/London border.

The crash on the southbound carriageway, close to the Brook Street junction with the M25, happened just before 16:00 BST.

Police said it appeared the driver had lost control.

They advised motorists to avoid the area. The road is expected to remain closed for most of the evening.

The northbound carriageway was also closed for a time when the air ambulance landed.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "I do hope motorists using the M25 and the A12 understand why we have to close this road.

"Not only for forensic examination but also because this lorry was fully laden with a 44 tonne load and has overturned over all three lanes of the carriageway."
