A 16-year-old girl called in the emergency services on Father's Day after her dad got stuck in mud flats searching for his spectacles.

The man lost his glasses earlier in the day while out on a personal watercraft off St Lawrence Bay, in Essex.

The man was pulled free by a rescue helicopter from Wattisham. After the rescue, the coastguard warned others that mud flats can be "very dangerous".

A Coastguard spokesman said one of the man's legs was completely submerged.

He was instructed to lie backwards in the mud to spread his weight across its surface until help arrived.

The helicopter hovered overhead as a winch man went down to free the man.

After he was pulled out of the mud, he was taken to Colchester Hospital.

It is understood he did not find his glasses.
