Three badgers have died in rural Essex after they were poisoned.

Essex Police said two badgers at a sett near Saffron Walden died, a third had to be put down and fourth survived to be released back into the wild.

The bodies of the three dead badgers have been sent to Natural England, which is responsible for investigating the deaths of protected species.

Post-mortem examinations will be carried out on the three male badgers to establish which poison was used.
