A murder inquiry has been launched after a man died from a serious head injury after being assaulted in Essex.

The 35-year-old man was assaulted in a car park area near Morrisons supermarket on London Road in Grays in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Earlier he had been out with friends at the nearby Euro Lounge on Saturday night.

The man was taken to Queens Hospital in Romford but later died. Police said his family have been informed.

A police spokesman said officers want to speak to any witnesses who were in the club or saw the assault in the car park which took place at about 02:30 GMT on Sunday.

Det Ch Insp Simon Parkes said: "This investigation is in its early stages. A man has died and I need to capture those responsible for his death. If you have any information please contact detectives at Grays."
