A judge said two men who carried out a drive-by shooting acted as though they were in the wild west town of Tombstone.

Dean Edwards, 39, and Michael Cooper, 40, drove past the TP Sports Bar in Colchester firing three times.

A jury at Chelmsford Crown Court found the pair guilty of possessing of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Edwards, of Braintree, was jailed for 15 years and Cooper, of Clacton, for six.

Edwards had previously admitted possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possessing a firearm when prohibited to do so following a five-year prison sentence.

During the trial, the jury heard how Edwards became angry after he thought his unfinished drink had been taken away by bar staff.

'Extremely dangerous'

When he ordered another drink but refused to pay he was told to leave by doorman and former soldier Kristian Williams.

But some time later, Edwards returned in a gold-coloured Rover driven by Cooper. They passed the bar five times at four minute intervals.

Using a shotgun, they fired off three shots. Nobody was injured.

The jury was shown CCTV footage of the shootings.

Sentencing the pair, Judge David Turner QC said the pair had acted as though they were in Tombstone, Arizona, a town made famous for a shoot out at the OK Corral involving Wyatt Earp.

Det Insp Stephen Jennings said: "The result of the reckless and extremely dangerous actions of these two men could have been far worse."
