Basildon family is burgled during funeral
A grieving family was burgled during a funeral by thieves described as "despicable" by police.
The owners of the house in Roosevelt Road in Basildon were at a family funeral on Friday.
Police believe they were deliberately targeted because of the number and nature of cards at the property.
Cash, jewellery and bags were stolen. Essex Police has appealed for witnesses and wants to speak to two men seen by the driveway at about 17:00 GMT.
Det Sgt Alex Gartshore said: "The thieves must have known the family were suffering bereavement due to a large number of cards of condolences in the address.
"I am appealing for the public's help to catch these despicable thieves."
