The accident happened between junction 18 for Chelmsford and junction 17 for Great Baddow.
Police described conditions as "pretty miserable" and said diversions had been put in place around the accident.
The road was reopened later after the vehicle was recovered. More heavy snow is forecast by the Met Office for Sunday and into Monday morning.
Snow is falling across Essex and is heaviest in the south but spreading north and eastward
Greater Anglia Trains said it would be running planned services on all routes through the county on Sunday but warned of engineering works.
"Engineering works will be taking place this weekend on some routes and customers are advised to check their planned journey before setting out," a spokesman said.
Full details of engineering work can be found on the Greater Anglia website.
Essex Police called on motorists to ensure their vehicles were ready for poor driving conditions and consider taking a blanket and shovel for long journeys.
