Girl, four, hurt in 'dog attack' in Southend

A four-year-old girl in Essex has suffered facial injuries after being attacked by a dog.

Police were alerted to reports that the girl had been hurt in Eastern Esplanade near the Kursaal in Southend at 11:35 GMT on Saturday.

She was taken to Chelmsford's Broomfield Hospital for treatment.

A police spokesman said officers were "working with the owner of a Labrador" and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
