Chelmsford assault victim dies in hospital

A man seriously injured in an assault has died of his injuries.

The 27-year-old Albanian man was left with a head injury on Sunday at about 03:00 BST in Duke Street, Chelmsford.

The man, from the London area, died on Monday afternoon at Chelmsford's Broomfield Hospital.

A 28-year-old man from Chelmsford and a 29-year-old man from Canvey have been arrested, while a 31-year-old from west London, who was also arrested, was released on bail.

Essex Police is appealing for anybody who saw what happened to come forward.

Police say they are treating the death as an unlawful killing.

Det Ch Insp Lucy Robinson said: "I urgently need to speak to two men who can be seen on CCTV in the area at the time.

"They can be seen helping a man to his feet following the incident and I need to talk to them as they will have vital witness information."

The victim's family in Albania have been informed.
