Thames Estuary oyster beds close as numbers plunge
Oysters beds in the Thames Estuary have been closed to fishermen amid concerns that native oysters could be wiped out.
The temporary closure was prompted by ground-breaking research by Essex Wildlife Trust and the Blackwater Oystermen which found that the native oyster numbers were in sharp decline.
