Woman in Loughton Methodist Church injured by car

A woman was "seriously injured" while inside a church in Essex after a car crashed into the front of the building.

Police were called to Loughton Methodist Church, near Trap's Hill, at about 16:00 BST on Monday after reports a black BMW had lost control.

The injured local woman, in her 40s, was airlifted to hospital with leg and pelvis injuries. She is said to be in a stable condition.

Structural engineers are assessing damage to the church.

Police said the driver of the car, a woman from Loughton, was "badly shaken".
