Girl retracts allegation of rape in Pitsea

A teenage girl who told police she was raped in Essex has retracted the allegation.

The 17-year-old said she was approached by a man in London Road, Pitsea, then attacked at a house early on 3 April.

She has now admitted it did not happen and is being re-interviewed about other allegations she made. Inquiries are on-going, police said.

Officers said they wanted to reassure women that a rape by a stranger had not taken place.
