Man stabbed as he walked along street in Southend

A man has been stabbed while walking along a street in Southend, Essex.

The 28-year-old was attacked as he walked on Southchurch Road, near The Exchange pub, at about 01:00 BST on Friday.

He was treated at Southend University Hospital but his injuries were not considered life threatening.

A 41-year-old man from Southend was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and released on police bail until 7 October.

An Essex Police spokesman said inquiries were continuing and appealed for information.

Anyone who was in the area around the time of the attack, and local residents who saw or heard anything suspicious, are asked to contact police.

Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who has come across discarded items in the area.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the serious crime team at Southend police station or call Crimestoppers.
