Basildon Hospital: Concern over records

Shortfalls in the way patients' wishes about resuscitation are recorded at Basildon Hospital have been highlighted by a health care watchdog.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said it found "uncompleted sections on the forms".

But it said that overall patients were "happy with the care, treatment and support provided".

The hospital's trust said it was looking at the problem as a matter of priority.

The CQC, which visited Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in May this year, said it had asked the trust to report back on what changes it was going to make.

It also said there were some concerns over the safe storage and security of medication which could compromise the safety of patients.

The CQC reported that the hospital had done well in areas including cleanliness, safety and staff levels.
