Girls injured as car mounts pavement in Colchester

Two teenage pedestrians have been injured after a car being driven by an 87-year-old man mounted the pavement.

The 16-year-old girls were in Head Street, Colchester, in Essex when the car hit them before coming to a stop at a shop wall.

One girl was trapped between the car and the shop and is in a stable condition in hospital. The other received grazes to her back.

Police believe the driver may have been taken ill at the wheel of his vehicle.

Essex Fire and Rescue Service said crews used specialist cutting equipment to free the man who was trapped in his car.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Essex Police.
