Escaped 6ft boa constrictor returns to home in Essex

A 6ft (1.8m) pet boa constrictor which escaped from a window in Essex has returned to his owner's garden.

The hunt for the snake, called Diego, began on 30 July after his owner realised he was missing from his home in Barnfield, Wickford.

He had slithered out of the bathroom window. Neighbours were sent leaflets urging them to keep pets and children indoors.

It is thought Diego might have been out hunting for prey.

Boa constrictors are commonly found in tropical forests in South America. They are from the family of constricting snakes, which kill their prey through asphyxiation.
