Untaxed car seized when driver flashes lights at police

A man driving without tax or insurance flashed his headlights at an oncoming car to warn there were police officers nearby, not realising he had flashed an unmarked police car.

The driver's vehicle was one of six seized by officers in a one-day crackdown on motoring offences on the main roads around Poole.

A total of 207 offences were detected, 194 for speeding, Dorset Police said.

The operation was run in response to concerns raised by residents.

One man stopped for speeding told officers he needed the toilet.

Another man caught travelling at 71mph (114km/h) in a 50mph (80km/h) zone told officers: "My wife is going to kill me."

Officers focussed on main roads in the area, including the A35, A31, A348, A350 and A352.
