Out of town retail rules 'helping Sherborne to thrive'

2 July 2014 Last updated at 21:30 BST

Business leaders in a Dorset town say trade is booming thanks to a policy of restricting out of town retailers.

In 2011, an independent review commissioned by the government suggested that high streets across the country were at "crisis point", with vacancy rates shooting up.

Sherborne has just a handful of empty shops, and some claim this is because there is no supermarket on the edge of the town.

But others, say it would be good to have the option of a big supermarket.
