Lorries stopped in Poole scrap metal crackdown

Scrapyard generic Legislation now requires scrap metal dealers and collectors to be licensed by local authorities

Loads from scrap metal lorries have been seized in an operation against the illegal scrap trade in Dorset.

Eighteen lorries were stopped by police officers in Poole on Friday, with three loads seized.

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act, introduced in 2013, requires dealers and collectors to be licensed by local authorities.

Sgt Adrian Thompson said the force would "deal proactively" with unlicensed drivers.
