A man has been injured in a shooting in Bournemouth.

A gun was fired at a house in Jewell Road, on the Townsend Estate, in the early hours.

A 48-year-old man was taken to hospital after sustaining a "minor" pellet injury to the side of his body. He has since been released.

Dorset Police officers were called to the property at about 00:30 BST and a cordon remained in place throughout the morning.

The suspect has been described as white, aged in his 20s, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 9ins-tall and wearing a dark-coloured top.

Witnesses have said a vehicle left the area at the time but police said it was not clear whether it was connected with the incident.

Det Ch Insp John Gately, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: "Fortunately the victim received only minor injuries.

"No weapon has been recovered and we are investigating what type of weapon may have been used.

"I would urge any witnesses and anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact the police as soon as possible in confidence."
