Plans for a new £22m academic building at Bournemouth University have been approved.

The four-storey, glass-fronted facility at its Talbot Campus on Wallisdown Road will replace an existing car park.

It will house academic and support facilities, including seminar rooms and lecture theatres, which the university aims to open to residents and local businesses.

Construction is due to start in the summer and be completed in 2016.

The approval by Borough of Poole Council follows a public consultation between October and December last year.

The university said a new car park to replace all 197 spaces on the site would be developed south of the campus.

It added a new "mini link road" would also be constructed to connect Gillett Road to the campus to minimise traffic flows through local residential roads.
