A fisherman has been airlifted to hospital after his thumb was severed in an accident on a vessel off the Dorset Coast.

Coastguard crews airlifted the man from Spanish Eyes III in Lyme Bay just after 09:00 GMT.

Portland Coastguard said the man's thumb was severed when he got it caught in a net winch roller.

He was flown to Salisbury hospital where he was expected to undergo surgery to sew the thumb back on.
