Elderly man dies in lorry collision in Christchurch

An elderly pedestrian has died after being hit by a lorry.

The 79-year-old man, who walked with the aid of a frame, was left badly injured in the crash in Christchurch's High Street, Dorset, at 11:50 BST.

He was taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital for treatment but died from his injuries.

No other injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved. Police have urged any witnesses to the crash to help with their inquiries.

The lorry driver, a 44-year-old man from Poole, was spoken to by officers at the scene, but not arrested.

Police said he was driving "at low speed" at the time of the collision close to The Fountain roundabout.
