Royal Bournemouth Hospital development plans approved
Plans for a new building to house services for women's health, cancer and blood disorders at a Dorset hospital have been approved by councillors.
The 2,000 sq m (21,500 sq ft) Jigsaw Building will be based between the Eye Unit and Derwent Suite for Orthopaedics at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Health officials have said it will be a centre of excellence for oncology, haematology, gynaecology, breast care and early pregnancy.
Works are due to start in the autumn.
Richard Renaut, director of service development at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "It is great news that the plans have been approved and we now look forward to the work starting.
Fundraising efforts through the Jigsaw Appeal charity, alongside investment from the NHS, have helped pay for the building.
It is hoped works will be completed by late 2014 after plans were approved by Bournemouth Borough Council's planning committee.
