Weymouth estate granted dispersal order

Police will be able to disperse groups of young people from a Weymouth estate under powers granted to tackle anti-social behaviour.

The powers cover the Littlemoor area, where problems with teenagers have been reported.

Under the order police officers can disperse groups of two or more people from the area if they are behaving in an anti-social manner.

The council has granted the force the six month dispersal order from 1 March.

Officers also have the power to take any young people under the age of 16 home between 21:00 and 06:00, if they are in a public place and involved in or at risk from anti-social behaviour.

Sgt Samuel Goom said: "If you are under 16 years old and misbehaving on the estate we will take you home and ensure your parent or guardian takes steps to ensure it will not happen again.

"We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour."

Street lights have been turned back on at night time and a temporary mobile CCTV camera has also been installed to help tackle the issue.
