Public consultation has started on a three-year plan to improve housing in a Dorset resort.

Bournemouth Borough Council's strategy includes bringing empty homes back in to use and improving the management and standard of private rented homes.

Recently, the council announced it had asked residents on the housing register to reapply as it introduces new criteria for allocations.

This includes financial means testing. Consultation closes on 21 December.

Lorraine Mealings, strategic housing services manager at the council, said recent changes to national legislation would "significantly impact on housing issues in the town".

Some of the national legislation changes include the ability for local authorities to have more flexibility in the way in which they allocate council housing and the overhaul of the benefit system.
