Durlston Castle hoping to scoop Heritage Lottery Award

A castle on Dorset's Jurassic Coast is in the finals of the the National Lottery Awards.

Durlston Castle, near Swanage, was built between 1887 and 1891 as the centrepiece of local businessman George Burt's Durlston Estate.

Mr Burt wanted to develop Durlston as a suburb of Swanage by building houses and a new coastal road but the development never came to fruition.

Now owned by Dorset County Council, it has become one of three buildings to reach the National Lottery awards' Best Heritage Project final.
