Boy, 13, stuck up to knees in mud on Dorset beach rescued

A 13-year-old boy who got stuck up to his knee in mud on a Dorset beach had to be rescued by the Coastguard.

The boy became trapped on Stonebarrow Beach, Lyme Regis, as he attempted to walk through a mudslide from the cliffs at Charmouth, on Saturday afternoon.

After being freed by the Coastguard rescue team he was checked by a paramedic on board the search and rescue helicopter that also attended.

Portland Coastguard warned heavy rain had made much of the cliff unstable.

The boy, who was on holiday, was reunited with his parents after the rescue.

The Coastguard said much of the cliff was unstable, especially between Bridport and Sidmouth, with further cliff falls and mudslides likely.

Coastguards and local authorities have placed warning signs in many areas.
