A suspected arson attack has wrecked a doctor's surgery in Dorset.

Crews were called to the shopping precinct at Culliford Crescent, in the Canford Heath area of Poole, at 02:30 BST.

Dorset Fire and Rescue said the roof of the surgery was completely destroyed.

The service said 40 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze, which is thought to have been started deliberately.

Incident commander Sean Frampton said: "Fire crews worked really hard to get this fire under control and limit damage to property.

"We had to call in our aerial ladder platform, based at Westbourne, and a water carrier from Christchurch to assist us in dealing with this severe fire."

Dorset Police is also investigating another fire in the shopping precinct overnight.

The surgery is now closed and patients with appointments are being advised to contact nearby Mitchell Road surgery.
