Inquest opens after Weymouth fishing boat death

The search for crew members Robert Prowse and Jack Craig was eventually called off

The inquest into the death of a fisherman who was lost off the coast of Dorset when his whelking vessel sank has been opened and adjourned.

Evidence was heard at the coroner's court in Dorchester about the skipper of the vessel Purbeck Isle, David Jonathan McFarlane, 35, from Weymouth.

His body was recovered from the sea on Friday 18 May.

Searches for the other crew members, Robert Prowse and Jack Craig, were later called off.

A memorial fund has been set up for the families of the three fishermen with collection points set up around Weymouth harbour where the boat was based.

A book of condolence was also opened at the council offices by the Mayor and Mayoress of Weymouth & Portland, Graham Winter and Mary Jordan-Winter.
