An inquest into the death of a man who died in a crash after a police pursuit in Dorset has been opened.

Steven Brown, 18, died when the Volkswagen Golf he was in crashed near Three Legged Cross early on Sunday.

Mr Brown, from Verwood, was taken by ambulance to hospital in Poole but later died. Another 18-year-old man, from Ferndown, suffered minor injuries.

The hearing took place in Bournemouth earlier and was adjourned to a later date.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has said it is examining the two pursuing officers' actions.

Police said the Golf was suspected to have been involved in a forecourt fuel theft from the BP petrol station in Ringwood Road, St Leonards.
