Dorset's Corfe Castle photo scoops award

More than 100 of the images will be displayed in a free exhibition

An atmospheric image of Dorset's Corfe Castle has won first prize in a national landscape photography competition.

The photograph showing the castle on a frosty morning won this year's Landscape Photographer of the Year.

The work, by local photographer Antony Spencer, beat thousands of entries of both urban and rural landscapes to win him the £10,000 top award.

The awards were held in association with Network Rail and Natural England.

Meanwhile the Young Landscape Photographer of the Year award, for young people aged 16 and under, went to Taliesin Coombes for his image of a steam train leaving Cardiff station in Wales.

Helen Phillips, chief executive of Natural England, said: "The awards are a reminder of how valuable our landscapes are and how important it is that we look after them."

More than 100 of the best images will be displayed in a free exhibition at the National Theatre in London from 22 November.
