Cocker spaniel dog survives 120ft Dorset cliff plunge

A dog walked away from a 120ft (37m) cliff fall in Dorset with just a "little limp", coastguards have said.

The owner was walking her two dogs when she let them off their leads near Old Harry Rocks, east of Studland.

One of the dogs returned but her cocker spaniel, called Oscar, slipped and fell over the edge. He was helped by a passer-by after Thursday's tumble.

Portland Coastguard said the dog escaped serious injury and was taken to a vet as a precaution.

A coastguard spokesman said: "He went down quite a fall but managed to walk away just with a little limp.

"We always advise owners to keep their dogs on their leads near cliffs as the animals do get excited and can fall over the edge."
