Fire at laundry on Ilfracombe industrial estate

Mullacott Cross fire Fire crews were called after smoke was reported inside the building

Firefighters have put out a blaze at a laundry on an industrial estate in north Devon.

Four crews were called to R&L Laundry at Mullacott Cross, Ilfracombe, just after 06:15 BST after a member of staff reported smoke inside the single-storey building.

Engineers from Wales and West Utilities isolated gas supplies to the property, Devon and Somerset Fire Service said.

An environmental protection unit and police were also called to the scene.

Station commander John Nolan said: "The fire was initially contained within a small area, but there was floor-to-ceiling smoke."

An investigation had begun into the cause, fire crews said.
