A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a schoolboy in Devon.

Lee Dent, 42, of East Portlemouth, near Salcombe, is charged with murdering Alex Peguero Sosa, 17, in Kingsbridge on Sunday.

He was remanded in custody by Torquay magistrates to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on 10 July.

Alex, a Kingsbridge Community College sixth form student, died from serious head injuries.

Police were called to a taxi rank in Kingsbridge shortly after 02:20 BST.

Flowers have been left at the scene and Alex's family are holding a vigil in his memory at Smeaton's Tower in Plymouth at 19:00 BST on Wednesday.

A 22-year-old Kingsbridge man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice has been released on police bail until 28 July.
