Man dies in Bideford rooftop terrace fall

A 32-year-old man has died after falling 20ft (6m) from the rooftop terrace of a bar.

The Appledore man died at the scene, after falling into a courtyard at the Royal British Legion-owned Riley's Bar in Bideford, Devon, police said.

A 70-year-old man who went to help him suffered back injuries after falling a short distance onto a flat roof.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it was not treating the death on Saturday as suspicious.

The dead man has not yet been named.

Brian Saunders, secretary of the Bideford branch of the Royal British Legion, said: "The RBL would like to pass on their condolences to the man's friends and family.

"We have a very good safety record. As far as the RBL are concerned, the building meets all the health and safety regulations."
