A police officer sniffed out £2,000 of cannabis during a routine vehicle check.

Sean Thomas, 23, a passenger in the car, admitted he was planning to sell some of it to friends.

Officers also found 200 Valium tablets in his north Devon home and recovered £2,265 in cash.

Thomas, of Old Bideford Road, Barnstaple, admitted possession with intent to supply and was jailed for 10 weeks, suspended for a year.

Previous sales

Exeter Crown Court ordered the seizure of the drugs and money and sentenced Thomas to carry out 200 hours unpaid community work in addition to paying £440 costs.

Recorder Andrew Maitland told him: "You had just spent £1,000 on it which must have come from previous sales."

Thomas was a passenger in a car stopped by police in Sticklepath Hill, Barnstaple, on 18 October.

Officers found almost 200 grams of cannabis in seven bags in his rucksack.
