Man rescued and homes evacuated in Torquay fire

A man has been taken to hospital and up to a dozen people evacuated from their homes after a fire in Torquay.

A police spokesman said he believed all people in the house had been accounted for, but the fire service was yet to enter the property on Dunmere Road.

Emergency services were called to the house at about 06:20 GMT and the man, who was rescued, has been taken to Torbay Hospital.

His condition and the cause of the fire is not clear.
