A man's body has been found in a former copper mine in Cornwall.

Police believe he had an accident at Wheal Maid mine works near Carharrack and died at the scene.

The body of the unidentified man, aged in his seventies, was found by a dog walker at about 09:00 GMT on Saturday, said police.

He had a grey beard and he was dressed in a blue fleece, tracksuit bottoms and cycling shoes. A black baseball cap and spectacles were found nearby.

The area is used by mountain bikers and police are asking anyone who may have seen the man in the area, or anybody with any information, to contact them.

The mine closed at the end of the 19th Century.
