An angler has died after being rescued from the sea off Cornwall.

A search was launched on Wednesday after the man, aged in his 60s, was reported missing after failing to return to Cadgwith from a fishing trip.

He was rescued off The Lizard at about 20:00 GMT by the crew of the survey vessel Triad after spending several hours in the water, coastguards said.

The man was airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro but later died, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

Coastguard rescue teams, a rescue helicopter, a lifeboat and other vessels in the area were also involved in the search.
