A woman has been seriously injured in a crash on the M5 in Devon.

The collision on the northbound carriageway happened at about 06:30 GMT between Exeter and Cullompton.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the woman, who was trapped in her overturned Renault Clio, had been flown to Plymouth's Derriford Hospital by air ambulance.

A force spokesman said the woman, 32, who is from Exeter, has injuries which are "potentially life changing".

The road, and southbound carriageway which was closed to allow the air ambulance to land, have since reopened.

The closures resulted in traffic delays.
