Appeal for new retained firefighters in Torbay

Devon and Somerset Fire Service sign Devon and Somerset Fire Service has about 2,000 full and part-time firefighters

The Devon and Somerset Fire Service is appealing for more retained firefighters in Torbay.

The service said it was looking for on-call part-time recruits in the Paignton and Torquay areas who lived within five minutes of the towns' fire stations.

People who could provide daytime cover were particularly needed, said the service.

The service has about 1,200 retained firefighters and 800 full-time at its 85 fire stations in both counties.

Men and women over 18 with a good level of fitness can apply, the service said.
