An illegal rave, which attracted between 300 and 500 people, has been stopped by police at a wood in Devon.

Police were called to the Forestry Commission site in the Beaworthy area, near Okehampton, overnight.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said officers had seized sound systems from people at the site.

The force said it had increased the number of officers working during bank holiday weekends to "swiftly resolve" any illegal raves.

The spokesman added that anyone who had planned to attend the rave was advised to stay away.

Last June, at Bellever Woods, on Dartmoor, police said there were more than 1,200 people and up to 500 cars at a suspected illegal rave.
