Plymouth cafe rape suspect, 34, arrested

A man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in a Plymouth cafe.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers made the arrest after a woman in her early 20s reported she had been raped in the toilets of Goodbody's Cafe, in the Mutley Plain area of the city.

Det Insp Steve Brownlow said the traumatised victim was being given care and support by specially trained officers.

A 34-year-old man is being questioned by detectives.

Police said the alleged incident happened at about 08:00 GMT.

Det Insp Brownlow said: "While offences of this nature are rare in Plymouth, I want to remind people, particularly young women, to be vigilant and report any incidents to us as soon as possible."
