Armed robber threatens Warrens bakery staff

An armed robber who threatened staff at a north Devon bakers is being hunted by police.

The man went into Warrens in Boutport Street, Barnstaple, at about 16:30 GMT on Wednesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police said after threatening staff with what appeared to be a firearm, the suspect made off with an unspecified amount of cash.

He is described as aged between 25 and 40, 5ft 10in (1.8m) tall, of stocky build with a scar on his face.

'Very rare'

The suspect was wearing dark clothing and a light coloured woollen hat.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to.

Ch Insp Toby Davies said armed robberies were "very rare" in north Devon and the incident was being taken very seriously.

Members of the public have been advised not to approach the man, but anyone who recognises him or has any information about the incident is asked to contact police.

"It's very likely that someone out there has a good idea as to who this could be and we'd urge them to come forward," Ch Insp Davies added.
