MV Krempertor The German-owned cargo ship is believed to have been en route to Spain when the crew member died

An investigation is under way in Plymouth after the death of a man on a cargo ship at sea.

The MV Krempertor is believed to have been en route to Spain with scrap metal when a member of the crew died.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said a cargo vessel had been brought in to Cattedown Wharves and officers were investigating an unexplained death.

MV Krempertor is registered in Antigua and Barbuda, but is owned by the German firm Reederei Erwin Strahlmann.

A company spokesman said he could only confirm there had been a fatality aboard the ship.
