Extra police for Torquay United v Plymouth Argyle game

Extra police officers have been drafted in to police a Devon football derby.

Fifty officers from Devon and Cornwall Police will be involved in policing the match between Torquay United and Plymouth Argyle.

The officers will be split between Torquay's ground, which the club will pay for, and train and bus stations.

Ch Insp Mike Ward said big crowds brought "safety issues" and the force only deployed to matches with a "high threat" of trouble.

He added: "Clearly we've got individuals that we'll be more concerned about so we'll be keeping an eye on those but we will use our staff according to the intelligence which comes in before the game."
