A nine-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after she was rescued from the sea near Dartmouth, in south Devon.

The girl, from Exeter, was rescued from the water at Blackpool Sands beach by members of the public and lifeguards after she got into difficulty.

She was given oxygen by lifeguards and taken to Derriford Hospital by ambulance at about 13:15 BST.

A spokesman for Brixham Coastguard said the girl had inhaled seawater and would be checked at the hospital.
